Welcome to the first CHS’64 Newsletter!
We will attempt to send this out every six months unless we get
major news before that. Please let me know if you have information
that should be included: email
me
The Cupertino 64 Foundation
Jim Rodriguez announced that the Cupertino 64 Foundation has 501(c)(3)
tax exempt status. The effective date of the exemption is from October
21, 2004. The foundation is meant to help us keep the website going
and to defray costs of future reunions for classmates who otherwise
wouldn’t be able to attend.
Because it is a locally registered nonprofit, we will be able
to use the Quinlan
Center for our next reunion at a reduced cost.
Jim Rodriguez suggests, "We should have the next reunion in
September, 2009 while the weather is good and we can open the doors
on to the park and patio next to the center."
I will put some more information about the foundation on the website
when I get it from Jim R. Donations information is on the
home page of the website.cupertino64.org
Biographies
If you haven’t already, go take a look at the “Classmate
Biographies” page of the website. It’s a lot of fun.
And if you haven’t sent in your own biography form, it’s
not too late. Just click on the “bio
form” link on the
Biographies page. Also please feel free to use the form to update
your biography. Bug your old friends and get them to fill out the
form too.
Next newsletter
We’re going to try to send these out about every six months.
If you have information you think the class would like to know about,
please email Virginia Rawak Bruce, email me
We decided that we wouldn't list grandchildren. We know they're
the most important thing that's happened to you but that's the kind
of stuff you ought to share directly with your old friends, or put
it on your bio. Besides, the newsletter would be 10 pages long!\
NEW!! Movies on the website!
I put up some of the video that was
shot with my movie camera at the reunion. And the wonderful
slide show that Sharon and Ken Ashton put together to show during
the event is there too. It’s available as streaming video for
people with fast connections, but if you have dialup, start the
download and go have dinner…They will also be available on
CD or DVD. If you have good footage from the reunion, email me
Also on the site is a revised
contact information list. Check
it and let us know if you know of changes. It’s important
for people at least to update us on their email address so we can
contact you for the next reunion.

All-‘60’s Reunion?
A rumor circulated that someone was trying to organize another
all-‘60s CHS reunion this summer but I haven’t been
able to get more information. Anybody know anything?
A note we received about our website
My name is Gina Bianchini and my father was Gary Bianchini. I
was looking around the web today to just see if there was
anything about my father online. I guess it was the equivalent
of a vanity search. Anyways, I came across this page here cupertino64/obituaries/bianchini.html
I just wanted to say thank you and your committee for taking the
time to create that page. It really touched me. My father
died 21 years ago, but to know that he is not forgotten by people
other than our family really means a lot.
Anyways, I thought I would just drop you a note.
Best Regards, Gina
Class of ’65 has a website too! But you have to be a member
to look at it…email Jim Bell, bell.jj@comcast.net, to get
on the list – it’s free cupertino65.org They
had their 40th reunion from September 23-25th.2005
There’s also an all-school alumni site at www.tinoalumni.org/ but you have to join to see any of the site – basic membership
is $25. Someone let me know if it’s worth it!
Music Notes
NEDFEST- honoring the musical life, humor and philosophy of Ned
Torney
March 26, 2006
Moes Alley, 1535
Commercial Way Santa Cruz, CA 831-479-1854 www.moesalley.com
(Class of '65 Kirk and Blake, the Torney twins, were Ned’s
younger brothers.) A founding member of the Chocolate Watchband
(see below), and a guiding light of the entire south bay/peninsula
mid-sixties Psychedelic Rock/ Soul/ Funk scene, Ned passed
on last November from complications due to pneumonia and
heart disease.
His musicianship and unforgettable personality touched thousands
of lives, from garage band legends The Chocolate Watchband and Syndicate
of Sound, two of the most popular south bay bands of the 60's, thru
the legendary IAM band, Bogus Thunder, The Other Side, to the Sundogs,
barely scraping the surface of his influence. Moby Grape lead guitarist
Jerry Miller, a dear friend of Ned, and one of the acknowledged
Pioneers of Jazz/Rock/Blues guitar, will be on hand, filling in
for Ned, along with Ex- Doobies Tiran Porter, and Dale Ockerman.
Ned's two sons, Nathan and Aaron (who are coming to town for the
celebration) are talented performers in their own right, and NEDFEST
is a benefit for their bright futures. The afternoon (approx. 2-7
pm) will be for friends and family, the evening (8-12:30) will be
the concert benefiting the boys. Friends, admirers, and acquaintances
of Ned can email nedfestnedfest@yahoo.com (inexplicably, "nedfest" once
was taken, thus nedfestnedfest)
Chocolate Watchband: This band was founded by three of our classmates
(Rich Young, Jo Kemling and Danny Phay) plus some other locals.
There’s a short page of information on our website about it – www.cupertino64.org/chocolate_watchband.html. Gary
Andrijasevich '66: played 4 gigs in Europe in March 2005, including
Scotland, two in France and, in London on the same bill with the
Yardbirds which reprised a gig 40 years ago.
Rich Young and his band play nightly at the Gold Dust Saloon near
Union Square in SF.
Lee Donnelly Band “@Jazz” upcoming gig;
Saturday, April
1st, 4:00 - 7:00 PM
