Students will choose a topic for a website they will work on throughout the term. They may choose either a real business, a subject in which they have a strong interest, or a topic from a list below. Once they have chosen a topic to work on, they will identify a problem or problems in the situation description, and architect a website that will solve the problem.. "Extra Credit" Project: Work as a team to create a "Meta-site" to present and organize the other student sites. This will go onto the permanent class site. All organizations are fictional any resemblance to blah blah living or dead is blah blah.
Each of these organizations has decided they want a website and have hired you to produce it for them.
Non-Profit OrganizationNorthwest Indigenous Plant Society (NIPS) helps local gardeners find and grow native plants. They have plant and seed sales, sell books and tools from their small office, and disseminate literature on native plant identification, propagation and cultivation. They are supported by donations, memberships and proceeds of sales.
Small Business low techThe BeWell Clinic offers a variety of services and products for health. Massage, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, vitamins and supplements, and other health products are available from their Beaverton clinic and by mail order. They also offer classes and booklets on a variety of topics.
Small Business high techHomeSoft makes software/hardware systems to control home environments. Their products allow complete control of all home environmental aspects such as heating, cooling, door locks, video surveillance, alarm systems. They are just introducing a web interface so that people can check in and change settings via a secure website. They sell their equpment and lease their software, as well as doing installation and maintenance.
Small Business musicHigh C Music is a local music distributor and promoter. They represent about 20 bands, ranging from grunge to folk to swing. They are always looking for great new bands, and offer publicity and tour bookings as well as distribution of recorded music (mostly CD and tape). |
