What have you been up to for the last 45 years?

Moved to Capitola upon graduation and attended Cabrillo College.

Summer of '66 I joined the Navy, went to Vietnam, came back, went back to Vietnam and stayed for two more tours.

Came home in Dec 69, married in 70, divorced in 72. 1974 I sailed to Hawaii, then moved to Guam; moved back to Santa Cruz, California. Got married a couple years later, divorce within 4 months.

A half dozen years later I married (third time's a charm) Karen. We're at 24 years and counting as of 2009 and have one (man-child), Austin, who is now 24.

We've been in the same home in Soquel for more than 22 years. Austin, a graduate of Soquel High and Cal State Stanislaus, is currently in a doctorate program as a genetics scientist working on breast cancer research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Years after active duty Navy I joined the Army for a short time, then the Coast Guard Reserves. I was called into active service in 1990 & deployed to Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. I later served in both Korea in 1996 & Haiti in 1999. I was into active duty again in 03, 04 & 05, but stayed local in Alameda at Coast Guard Island until my last assignment, when I was loaned to the Navy (Naval Coastal Warfare Group One) in Imperial Beach, CA in Oct '05, where I remained until the end of September 2006.

A few days thereafter, per Coast Guard policy, (or politics) promptly upon my 60th birthday, I was forcibly retired.

I haven't done a whole helluva lot since then. Made a little art, but primarily play; sailing, surfing, fishing and also panning for gold in the Sierras (http://www.flickr.com/photos/12368842@N08/3277814830/). I recently joined DHS once again, for fear of going stir crazy, as a Disaster Reservist. I most recently spent a few months in Texas helping out with the Ike disaster relief effort there.

I continue to play while waiting for a call from FEMA once again. Life is good, as life is.
